All competitions listed below are for digital/electronic images unless otherwise noted.
Build images around mood, feeling, story, gesture, light, and expressive composition.
Explore freezing action, intentional blur, panning, long exposure, or camera movement.
Look for candid moments, gesture, light, urban structure, reflections, and human presence.
Show fine detail, texture, tiny subjects, shallow depth of field, or close-range abstraction.

April special contests are outside the annual competition standings. See the section below for details.
Special contests do not count in end-of-year standings. Awards will be presented to the first three places in each contest.
The 2027 Special Contest themes are Cell Phone, Nature, Photojournalism, and Portraits. Entry, Intermediate, Advanced, and Master submissions will be judged together. You may enter all four special contests, but you may only submit one image for each.
Entries must be uploaded to the PPC Competition Site before midnight on April 15, 2027.
Entries must be captured using a cell phone. Tablet photos are not eligible, even if the tablet acts as a phone. Images may be of any subject and may be edited on any device using any software. Images must be JPEG files with Windows-compatible file names.
Nature photography must honestly depict natural history. Human elements are not allowed unless they enhance the nature story. Manipulations that alter the truth of the scene are not permitted, except cropping. Adjustments must appear natural. Infrared photos are not allowed.
Photojournalism images should have informative content and emotional impact, reflecting human presence. Storytelling value receives priority. Images must not misrepresent truth. Only limited corrections such as dust removal, noise reduction, restoration, non-obvious sharpening, cropping, and monochrome conversion are allowed.
Images must be of people. Pets and other animals are not eligible. Entries may be color or monochrome.
